Betway, a prominent international online betting and gaming brand owned by Super Group, remains committed to enhancing sports development in Tanzania. As part of its impactful initiative, "Kits for Kitaa" (translating to kits for the street), Betway contributes essential sports equipment such as footballs, jerseys, and socks to grassroots soccer teams. The initiative involves providing kits to organized street teams, which then engage in the traditional "Mbuzi Fixture" competition, where the winning team receives goats as prizes.
On November 25, 2023, four teams from Mbagala Zakhiem in Temeke, Dare es Salaam, namely Mizozo FC, Mnarani FC, Wajuba FC, and Mtoni Boys FC, received kits from Betway and participated in the Mbuzi Fixture competition. Wajuba FC emerged as the overall winner, securing two goats by defeating Mnarani FC with a score of 2-1 in the final match.
Calvin Mhina, Betway Tanzania's Marketing Manager, expressed the company's commitment to giving back to society through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) while simultaneously fostering grassroots sports. He highlighted the positive feedback received since the program's launch in March 2023 and emphasized the importance of continuing to support grassroots football.
During the kits handover event, Mhina stated,
"Today we are in Mbagala, and we are pleased that the program resonates with sports fans here, similar to when we held it in Tegeta last year. That’s the essence of our slogan ‘For the Love of the Game.’"
The captain of the winning team-Wajuba FC spoke highly of the initiative, emphasizing how it encourages the culture of participating in sports among community members.
He commented, “Most times our teams cannot mobilize enough funds to buy proper kits such as the ones provided by Betway, and as a result, some of us are discouraged from taking an active part in sports. For me and all the teams here, the kits will positively change how we engage in sports and we will start arranging competition on our own.”
Betway aims to expand the Kits for Kitaa program to more streets in Tanzania, contributing to the growth and enrichment of the sports sector in the country.
