Education Manager – What Works Hub for Global Education
The What Works Hub for Global Education (WWHGE) is a joint initiative funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with support from Strategic Partners including the British Council, World Bank, UNICEF, USAID, the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEEAP), and the Building Evidence in Education global partnership and the Blavatnik School of Education, University of Oxford. The WWHGE aims to improve how evidence is communicated and used at all levels of government and all stages of the delivery cycle, supporting evidence-based and cost-effective education policies that will enhance learning for all.
Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:
Relationship and Stakeholder Management
- Stakeholder management: Own and deliver a stakeholder management plan in line with British Council Centre of Excellence stakeholder management standards and process, as well as relevant FCDO standards.
- Research engagement and dissemination: Own and deliver a research engagement and dissemination plan that ensures all partners and key stakeholders are engaged with relevant education research and enabled to identify trends, contextual issues and research gaps.
- Country and regional convening: Bring together policymakers, evidence creators, donors, NGOs and other stakeholders in the research and education ecosystems to build meaningful dialogue with the government on the latest evidence to strengthen foundational learning outcomes.
Management:
- Manage all aspects of the British Council’s deliverables for the project, from inception to closure.
- Use agreed corporate tools, processes, and compliance systems to plan and manage resources, project budgets, activities.
- Collect and analyse M&E data to track progress against deliverables.
Programme Management
- Ensures that British Council elements of the programme are compliant with all internal policies and processes (for example safeguarding, EDI, supply change management, social value, and conflict sensitivity).
- Manages British Council elements of the programme in line with British Council project management standards.
- Identifies risks to British Council elements of the programme puts together mitigation strategies with Country Director.
Equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)
- To actively contribute to an inclusive and anti-racist organisational culture, being aware of your own biases, and taking action to mitigate against these. Ensuring people feel valued and are treated equitably, with support for people’s well-being and mental health.
- Understand the British Council’s approach to equality, diversity, and inclusion and how it applies to your role and make time for learning and development relating to EDI and anti-racism.
Role specific knowledge and experience:
- Track record of working in projects related to the public education sector in Tanzania.
- Experience in project management, especially in leading and managing large-scale projects.
- Experience working with large and diverse teams and stakeholders.
Minimum requirements:
- Undergraduate qualification
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in education or related discipline
- Project management qualification
- Track record of having worked in the area of research and policy implementation and practice in the education sector in Tanzania.

- Language requirements: English at CEFR proficiency level C1 or higher
- Unsocial/long hours are likely to be required from time to time.
- Occasional national and international travel may be required.
- Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.
