The 17th Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council on Energy, Petroleum, and Minerals has commended the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for completing preparations for the 11th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition, set to take place from March 5 to 7, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.
These accolades were given during the council meeting held at the EAC headquarters in Arusha. Tanzania’s hosting of the conference follows the decision made during the 16th Sectoral Council on Energy meeting on February 14, 2024, which selected Tanzania as the host country.
The conference and exhibition aim to showcase investment opportunities in oil and natural gas resources among EAC member states, highlight the region’s geological potential, and attract investors for infrastructure development, environmental conservation, and oil and gas data management.
Additionally, the event seeks to introduce new exploration areas, share progress in the energy sector, exchange knowledge on policies, regulations, and technical expertise, and promote investment in oil and gas exploration, production, and development. Furthermore, it will serve as a platform to market tourism attractions in Tanzania and across the East African region.
This event presents a prime opportunity for Tanzania to promote energy investment prospects, particularly in the oil and gas subsector, thereby expanding avenues for attracting investors.
Moreover, the 17th Sectoral Council Meeting reviewed the progress of various energy, petroleum, and minerals projects, including the 39MW Nsongezi Hydropower Project to be jointly implemented by Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda, utilizing the Kagera River's waterfalls.
Tanzania’s delegation to the 17th EAC Sectoral Council Meeting was led by the Minister for Minerals, Hon. Antony Mavunde (MP), Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Judith Kapinga (MP), Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries-Zanzibar, Mr. Zahor Alharousy, along with other senior government officials.
