MINISTER OF TRANSPORT URGES ATCL TO MAINTAIN A RELIABLE FLIGHT SCHEDULE

The Minister of Transport, Prof. Makame Mbarawa, has urged Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) to ensure its flight schedules are consistent and reliable, eliminating delays and improving service quality for passengers.

Prof. Mbarawa made these remarks during the inauguration of ATCL's flight route from Dar es Salaam to Iringa, marking the airline’s return after an eight-year hiatus. The relaunch has been met with great success, with full passenger capacity, unlike other regions where occupancy rates typically hover around 60%.

Due to this high demand, Prof. Mbarawa directed ATCL’s Managing Director, Engineer Peter Ulanga, to monitor passenger numbers on the Dar es Salaam–Iringa route and increase the frequency of flights if demand continues to rise.

"Today’s launch has seen 100% passenger occupancy, unlike in other regions where initial flights operate at around 60%. Iringa should be given priority for more flights beyond the current three per week," said Prof. Mbarawa.

Potential for Night Flights and Service Expansion

He further suggested that once the Nduli Airport is fully equipped with lighting systems, night flights should be considered for Iringa and other regions such as Dodoma and Dar es Salaam.

"ATCL must focus on expanding its business by ensuring high service standards and efficiency. Strong leadership and innovation are key to maintaining its position in the aviation sector," he added.

Improved Customer Service and Fair Pricing

Prof. Mbarawa emphasized the importance of swift customer service, urging ATCL to resolve passenger complaints promptly to maintain competitiveness. He also advised the airline to set ticket prices that align with the quality of services provided.

Additionally, he thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating over TSh 7 billion to renovate Nduli Airport, which is now 95% complete.

ATCL’s Commitment to Enhanced Services

Speaking at the event, ATCL Managing Director, Eng. Peter Ulanga, announced that the airline will operate three flights per week on the Dar es Salaam-Iringa route. The round-trip fare is set at TSh 199,200, inclusive of a 23kg baggage allowance and a 7kg carry-on bag at no extra charge.

"ATCL will operate flights every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Twiga Members can also redeem their points to book tickets," said Eng. Ulanga.

He further noted that restoring flights to Iringa would boost tourism and business activities by reducing travel time to just 59 minutes and facilitating faster cargo transportation.

This development marks a significant step in improving regional air connectivity in Tanzania, with potential benefits for tourism, trade, and economic growth in Iringa and beyond.
