The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has launched two Presidential Commissions tasked with assessing issues related to land disputes in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the voluntary relocation process of its residents. The launch took place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
The first commission, led by Justice Dr. Gerald Ndika, will focus on evaluating land dispute issues within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The second commission, chaired by Engineer Musa Iyombe, will assess the voluntary relocation process of the area's residents. These commissions comprise members from various groups, including representatives of the local community in Ngorongoro, and are expected to complete their work within three months.
President Samia had pledged to establish these commissions on December 1, 2024, during a meeting with traditional leaders of the Maasai community residing in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. During the launch, the President expressed her confidence that the work of these commissions would help provide a lasting solution to the challenges facing the people of Ngorongoro.
Various guests attended the launch ceremony of the Presidential Commission to Review the Voluntary Relocation Process of Residents in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, as well as the Presidential Commission to Review Land Dispute Issues in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The event took place at the State House in Dar es Salaam on February 20, 2025.
