The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Shinyanga, Hon. Anamringi Macha, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing progress in cotton farming while urging agricultural experts to continue reaching out to farmers in their respective areas. He emphasized the importance of educating them on the use of modern equipment, including drones, which have been introduced by the Tanzania Cotton Board to assist in spraying pesticides on cotton fields.

RC Macha made these remarks during his inspection, awareness, and follow-up visit on cotton farming in Kishapu District. Among other things, he highlighted that the availability of such advanced equipment allows farmers to spray pesticides on a one-hectare farm in just six minutes, a breakthrough that is expected to significantly improve cotton farming in Shinyanga.

"I have inspected your farms, my fellow farmers, and I must say I am very pleased with the pace of cotton farming here in Kishapu. We are now restoring the glory of cotton farming as it was in the past. This aligns with the vision of His Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, ensuring that cotton farming becomes more productive, boosts the economy of the people, and contributes to national income," said RC Macha.

Accompanied by the Kishapu District Commissioner, Hon. Peter Masindi, Kishapu District Administrative Secretary, Ms. Fatma Mohamed, Kishapu District Executive Director, Mr. Emmanuel Johnson, and other experts, RC Macha reiterated the government’s goal of ensuring that each farmer produces between 1,000 and 1,200 kilograms of cotton per hectare.

This target aligns with previous production records, where farmers achieved up to 1,800 kilograms per hectare, making cotton farming one of the most profitable and sustainable cash crops for citizens and contributing to overall community development.

RC Macha’s visit is part of his ongoing efforts to directly engage with farmers in their fields, ensuring that Shinyanga Region regains its former status and recognition in various sectors, including agriculture, health, education, economic empowerment, reliable electricity, water supply, and essential services across all 506 villages in the region.
