In efforts to ensure human rights are adequately considered in business activities, the government, through the National Committee for the Management and Preparation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights and Business, has held an important meeting to review the draft of this plan.

During the meeting, the Technical Team presented the initial draft to the Committee for further improvements and final approval before its full implementation. Speaking to the press, Vice-Chairman of the Tanzania Human Rights and Good Governance Commission, Mohamed Khamis Hamad, emphasized that the plan is a crucial step toward ensuring that business operations are conducted with respect for human rights.

The action plan has been contributed to by stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, and experts on human rights and business issues. Its main objective is to ensure that the business sector grows in a balanced manner while respecting workers' rights, community well-being, and environmental sustainability.

According to Hamad, the government has shown strong commitment to overseeing this plan. Once the draft is finalized, it will be presented to the Ministry of Constitution and Law for coordination across both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar before taking the final steps toward implementation.

On his part, Chief Economist from the Ministry of Finance, Noel Komba, highlighted that the plan will open doors for more investment by creating a stable and equitable business environment for investors and employees. He pointed out that it will drive growth in various sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, and commerce, while also strengthening the accountability of companies to the communities they operate in.

The National Action Plan on Human Rights and Business is expected to be a key tool in implementing various international resolutions, including the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The government aims to complete the final preparations and begin its implementation before 2030.

This step is a reflection of democratic and ethical progress in business, positioning Tanzania in a favorable position to attract both domestic and foreign investment that adheres to human rights standards.
